James Toulson has been working within payroll services for over ten years for some of Plymouths larger employers. A couple of years ago he decided to set up One Less Worry Payroll Services to provide clients with a payroll service that he knows they both needed and deserved.
Since it’s inception, One Less Worry has gone from strength to strength, taking on the payroll of a variety of differing sized businesses and our client list speaks volumes about the quality of work, advice and experience we deliver. We now work with some of Plymouth’s leading financial and legal companies in an outsourced payroll capacity.
We strive to offer a service that is reasonably priced, thorough, efficient, honest and accurate. We want to be cost effective for those who can do it themselves but don’t want the hassle, and for those who need more help and guidance. Although based in Plymouth we can work with clients anywhere in the UK. We are happy to meet you at our office, your premises or a location convenient to you.

I have worked in the payroll industry for since 2010, from December 2014 I set up 1 Less Worry Payroll Services firstly as a sole trade then as a Ltd company
My journey began with a secondment from a credit management team of a PLC company in the print industry, initially intended to last only three months but extended until beginning made redundant in May 2012. This led to a temporary maternity cover position with a housing association, followed by a brief stint with the NHS.
Eventually, I landed at 1 Less Worry Bookkeeping Services Ltd as a Payroll Officer in 2013, facing redundancy once again. However, this setback presented an opportunity to purchase the payroll side of the business.
December 2014, I relocated the fledgling business to my spare bedroom, managing 89 monthly, 10 weekly, 3 fortnightly, and 1 four-weekly payrolls. December continued to be a pivotal month for the company, with the first employee my stepdaughter joining in December 2015, who now is the office manager.
Over the next few years, I grew the business exceeding all expectations, going from have one employee to seven.
The year 2019 was marked by personal tragedy, with the loss of both of my parents within six months. Despite this, my dedicated employees ensured the company’s resilience and continuity.
Over the years we have moved on several occasions, the latest to our offices in Derriford.
We now have around 500 of our own clients and process payrolls for 4 accountants adding another 200 clients to the total.
Hello, my name is Cara, and I am the Office Manager at One Less Worry Payroll Services Ltd. I joined the company in December 2015 as a Payroll Officer and was promoted to Office Manager in November 2018 as our team grew.
With the business expanding rapidly back in 2015, it was clear that James needed additional support. My eight years of experience in customer services made me an ideal fit for the role.
Starting at One Less Worry was an exciting challenge, especially as a new mum with two young children, and balancing work and family life was more demanding than I had anticipated.
Relocating to One Less Worry has been a fulfilling journey. Even now, I continue to learn and grow every day.
I genuinely enjoy working here, surrounded by a dedicated and friendly team. Every staff member strives to perform at the highest level, and I cherish the strong relationships we have built with our clients.
Hi there!
My name is Logan, and I am a Payroll Officer at 1 Less Worry Payroll Services Ltd. I’ve been with the company since October 31, 2022, and during my time here, I’ve gained significant knowledge and expertise in the payroll industry.
I genuinely enjoy my role at 1 Less Worry Payroll Services, as it allows me to connect with many new people and assist them with their payroll needs.
When I first joined, I had no prior experience in payroll, but thanks to the guidance of James (my granddad), I’ve developed my skills and grown into a professional Payroll Officer.
Working in payroll has been a fantastic opportunity, enabling me to balance my professional life with my hobbies. Outside of work, I enjoy going to the gym, playing Xbox, and football—a sport I’ve loved since I could walk. My dedication to my work is matched by my commitment to sports, where I’ve had the honour of representing my county and winning several awards.
This year, my goals are to seek out new challenges and continue to enhance my skills in payroll.
Hello! My name is Amy and payroll is my game
I am a one of the Payroll Officer here at 1 Less Worry Payroll Services Ltd, I co-ordinate most of the care industries payrolls, and manage 2 of the 4 accountants’ payrolls for them.
I joined the team back in August 2022, as an apprentice, and passed my Level 3 Diploma in Payroll Administration a year later.
Payroll wasn’t even on the list of jobs I considered, but I’ve grown to love working in this sector and eagerly anticipate the new challenges it brings.
Working in payroll has been a fantastic opportunity, allowing me to balance my career with my personal passions. I hold a second dan black belt in taekwondo, a discipline I’ve been dedicated to since I was three years old and now help teach our younger generation within this discipline.
Additionally, I volunteer at a veteran’s wheelchair rugby club, where I sometimes play and referee, being of the youngest female a qualified wheelchair rugby referees in the county.
I’m excited to continue growing and contributing to the success of 1 Less Worry Payroll Services Ltd.
My journey began at Derriford Hospital in 1994… but let’s fast forward to the present. I am a dedicated Payroll Officer here at 1 Less Worry Payroll Services Ltd, a role I’ve embraced since March 2023.
From my very first day, I felt right at home here. With several years of experience in payroll, since working here I have gained my Level 3 certification in payroll management.
I truly enjoy being part of this team and am always ready to assist with any questions or concerns, ensuring that everyone receives the best possible service and support.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, whether we’re embarking on little adventures or just relaxing at home. You’ll often find me watching sports or playing on my PS4 when I’m unwinding.
My name is River. I am 8 years old and a dedicated office dog.
When I arrive at the office, I make my rounds, giving everyone a friendly wag and maybe a quick sniff. It’s important to start the day on a ‘pawsitive’ note!
Once I’ve greeted everyone, I settle into my favourite spot in front of James’s desk.
I like to keep an eye on things and be ready to offer support (or just a happy face) when needed.
As the morning progresses, I always greet everyone with a wagging tail and a smile.
My job is to make sure everyone feels happy and motivated, and I take it very seriously.
I’m always alert and ready to jump up if someone needs a bit of cheering up.
Whether it’s a quick game of fetch or a few minutes of petting, or even taking them out for walk, I’m here to ensure that everyone stays upbeat and productive.
My name is Lucy, River’s younger and stylish office sister, aged just 3 years old.
While I don’t visit the office often, when I do, I make a grand entrance, greeting everyone with a wagging tail and spreading cheer to kick off the day.
I visit each person for some petting and a few belly rubs, ensuring everyone feels valued and content.
One of my favourite activities is raising my paw and prompting someone in the office to sing “Round and round the garden” while rubbing my paw in a circular motion.
After a lively morning, I love curling up in my cozy dog bed for a nap, drifting off to dreamland where I occasionally twitch and let out a contented whimper, imagining the thrill of chasing squirrels.
